It was only reading The Independent on Sunday that I learnt of this little misadventure at the turn of the 20th Century. So in short, Sir Edward Watkin thought that he would build a better version of the Eiffel Tower for the UK and so set to it. The project didn’t take off well, plans changed and building stopped at the first stage. Between 1904-1907, it was demolished by blowing it up with dynamite. Today only only competition to The Eiffel Tower is the Blackpool Tower but I think you can decide rather quickly which one is the best.
